The first game with ASMR music?

One of the largest contributions to relaxation is sound. While developing Realigned, I often listened to ASMR or ASMR music to help me focus. What I listened to the most was ASMR Beats. This novel combination of ASMR sounds and music can be very relaxing or help drive focus. I found that while testing Realigned, listening to ASMR Beats enhanced the relaxed feeling of the game. I reached out to Matyo, who makes ASMR Beats, and thankfully he agreed to do the music and the sound effects for the game.

Matyo did a phenomenal job. Each stage of Realigned features a unique ASMR Beats track that fits the aesthetic of the level. The music has a relaxing melody and the ASMR sounds give life to the atmosphere of the level. I asked Matyo what his thoughts were for the music and sounds in Realigned, here’s what he said.

I must say that from the beginning, the creation of ASMR BEATS was my little experiment which, however, turned into my big hobby. When Mike contacted me about making ASMR music for a video game, I was very surprised but it was also a big challenge for me. If someone had asked me in the past if I thought there would ever be a video game with an ASMR soundtrack, I would probably say no. That ASRM music is simply a minority genre.

But Mike's plans changed that. I think the Realigned video game is a pioneer in this. When I make music just for myself, for my YouTube channel, the result kind of reflects my current mood. However, when musicians create a soundtrack for a game, they have to try to capture the atmosphere of the level location. So that was a really big difference. My aim was to create melodies that would sound pleasantly independent, but at the same time to blend in with this beautifully designed game, so that it is not a distracting element when playing.

Mike and I discussed a lot about our ideas so that the sounds sound pleasant, to evoke a feeling of relaxation and also to capture the time and space where the game takes place. Sounds from a lake, crickets or bees, steps in the forest. These are just some of the sounds that gamers will hear when playing each level. The music and sounds in the game have been composed in such a way that the experience is best when using headphones. I hope that the gamers will have a nice experience from the game and perhaps its playability, as well as the original soundtrack will repeatedly make their free time more enjoyable.

I’ve looked, but I have not seen any other games with ASMR music. Realigned may just be the first.
